Autumn Training

We've started our Autumn training programme now. All training sessions will be at the sports hall at the school (42 Abbotswood Road (7pm Mondays and Thursdays) until further notice.

Guest players are welcome, you don't need to be a Crusaders team member.

Training in May

Watch-out! May is a turbulent month with regard to training.
On 11 May we move our Monday training sessions to Hope Street in Clapham Junction. And the session moves to the later spot of 8pm-10pm.
Thursday 14 May session remains at Streatham school, but then there is no Thursday game for 2 weeks!
Monday 25 May is a bank holiday, so also no game.
June will settle down to; Mondays at Hope Street, Thursdays at Streatham.

Trip To Sweden - 25 April

Last year the team from Funbo came to visit us. This year we will play a return match in Sweden. The match will be played on Saturday 25 April.

School Sports Hall Closed Due to Snow

Please note that the sports hall is closed on 2 February. The training session is cancelled.
The snow should have cleared by Thursday, so please expect a return to normality.
We won't be charged for the hall hire, so subscriptions will be extended to cover an extra session.

Match Report - South East Division T2

With a slightly larger team than for the first tournament, but still under full strength, we made the journey down to The Charterhouse Club in Godalming at what felt like the crack of dawn. With only seconds to spare we took to the rink for our game against Basingstoke Barracudas.

Basingstoke have always been a tough team and were partly responsible for our second place in the league last year. They always bring a large team and they play hard. So it was only after a nervous ten minutes as both teams settled down that Crusaders fired in the first of their winning goals. Front line Henrik, Marcus and Jarek made a truly magnificent sight and even managed to dodge most of the physical onslaught from Basingstoke.

Unfortunately there were several 2-minute penalties for both sides. Both Jarek and Adrian did time for Crusaders. Jens and Josh formed a nearly inpenetrable defense and Artu is a most capable addition to the defensive team. His sense of calm punctuated by his insane chuckle amid the surrounding frenzy made for a happy team.

I wish that that there was more to say about our second game against East Kent Warriors. They have some great players and play a good polite game. However the fire-power from our forwards brought us a 16-2 victory that heralded very little in response. Bram scored his first two goals for the team so the drinks are on him. Rob's performance in goal was near faultless, apart from one that seemed to bounce off his shoulder and another unstoppable shot from directly in front of goal.

We are in a good position in the league with only one defeat so far to London Sharks(5-4) and that can be put down to tiredness and the absence of a goalie. I know that Sunday mornings are not conducive to train journeys and exercise, especially in the winter, but with solidarity and commitment to the team we should be able to win the SE Division title.

London Sharks are a good team, but when I see our best forwards on top form, I feel it's like watching a 1st Division match in Sweden.

What is floorball?

Floorball is an indoor team game played using lightweight sticks with a plastic vented blade that is often curved at one end, and a light plastic ball.

It is played in a court ("rink"). A floorball team consists of 5 field players and a goalkeeper who wears protective clothing, but is not permitted a stick. More players wait on the bench, and all players will typically substitute every few minutes. This leads to a fast and energetic game.

The objective of the game is to score goals by playing the ball into the opponent's goal net. The players may control and redirect the ball using the stick, and may use their feet to trap the ball, but not to score goals or pass to team-mates. Players must not use their hands, arms or head to intentionally manipulate the ball, although other body parts can be used.

Floorball is very popular in Europe, but is dominated by 4 nations in particular: Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. It is rapidly gaining popularity in many other countries outside of Europe, such as Canada, Japan, Australia, the United States, and Singapore.
